Authorizenet is well supported in the Joomla component community. One of the reasons is because Authoriznet is the “granddaddy” of online merchant accounts for small and medium (and large) businesses. I’ve been associated with Authoriznet since its original founder made it available for the internet. “Back in the day”, Authorizenet was a major breakthrough in online credit card processing “for the masses”. It made all the difference in providing an online secure credit card acceptance for online businesses who would have had no reasonably priced way of accepting credit cards online. The only other solutions were too expensive and required special servers.

Importantly, over the years more and more features have been added to the authoriznet interface. Some are included in the base price and others are offered at additional fees. So you can add whatever special processing you need, depending on your business needs.

I will be continually updating this blog with Joomla components that use authorizenet. Here are just a few to start:

1) Virtuemart - An extremely popular Joomla shopping cart component.
2) DT Donate A donation module
3) JContentSubscription - Pay and Read Content Component.
4) JoomSuite Member - Pay To Access Pay to access any part or element of a Joomla website.

Components are continually being updated and they would be expected to continue to support Authorize.Net.  It's best to double check the component's documentation on their latest version to confirm that Authorize.Net included in the specs.  Not sure what to do?  Contact us and we'll check for you.

One of the quesitons we get, since the stable release of Joomla 1.5 is will Authoriznet work with 1.5. The answer is YES! As long as the 1.5 component includes Authorizenet as one of its supported payment systems, then Authorizenet will work. You need to check on the specific Joomla 1.5 component’s website supports Authorizenet. Most of them do, or will, as they roll out their updated components. Because Authorizenet has long been used in Joomla and Mambo components, they will usually include authorizent in their inital release.

You also need to confirm that your merchant account company supports Authorize.Net.  Most do. But contact us and we will check it out for you.

For those of who are currently using Joomla 1.5 in Legacy mode and are employing the “old” Joomla components, then you will find that Authoriznet works fine in legacy mode.
